Poem

Memory, Gratitude, Hope

I want to be remembered for the love of the Highest & Best.

I want to be remembered for patience with the lowest & for kindness to the least.

I want to be remembered for remembering the forgotten and focusing on the ignored.

I am thankful for those who lift me up in low times.

And I am thankful for those who remind me not to be haughty.

I am thankful for One Who was my best Friend even when I was at my worst.

And I am thankful for One who spent His life to help me when I felt ready to waste mine.

When I am surrounded in the land in a desperate battle against innumerable foes,

my Hope is a mountain refuge to Whom I run.

When I am adrift on the sea of life in a terrible storm of trouble,

my Hope is an anchor that ensures I will arrive safe in harbor.

When I am wandering aimlessly in an empty desert of parched dryness,

my Hope is an oasis that springs eternal and feeds my soul.

When my highest dreams are shifting clouds without rain in the brazen sky,

my Hope is the bright morning star rising up on the darkest night.

Written with friends who were seeking to remember the good times and regain a vision of better times to come.

Resurrection

Resurrection praised above the heroes of pagan peoples’ past:
Conquering fears, false confidence, and every sin.
The death prick was plucked out and wounds were healed
through him who was scourged for us and rose again.
Bearing burdens of all who’ve fallen into sin,
Lifting all who start to trust in Him,
He carried the beam outside the gates
and emptied the tomb for those who’d rest
and wait for the First Day to come.
He rose with healing wings
and simple, saving outstretched arms.
Light shines and darkness flees.
The day extends and terror ends.
Soon the nations will bend their knees.

Christmas Love: A Sonnet and Studies.

A chorus of angels assigns a chore for us:
Run to see the Savior, Christ the Lord.
Young Mary’s heart, soon pierced by evil sword.
Yet magi come with royal gifts, implore us
Let us pray and worship Christ the King
of Whom the moving stars in heaven sing:
Your Jewish baby prince is bringing peace
His sacred suffering shall send forth release
from debt to sin. “You must be born again.”
We run abroad, afar to spread the news,
that God saves any He’d elect to use
while carried by the Comforter, our Friend.

Below are links to various resources on Christmas: links to sites with historical information on Christmas.

CHRISTMAS IN BETHLEHEM:
Christmas is an opportunity to share the news about the gift that God gave the world, Jesus, whom people can TRUST for their eternal lives! No other message can be GREATER THAN THIS GOOD NEWS! Unfortunately, many people in the world cannot or will not accept this gift of ?Light and life.In fact, there are a growing number of skeptics, atheists, some scholars and agnostics who are attempting to use ?evidencefrom science, archaeology and literature to show there is no God and the Bible does not contain truth! In 2009, a DVD supposedly on Biblical Archaeology was produced that is full of inaccurate information on the OT. The film
indicated that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were NOT father, son and grandson! The use of false accusations such as these cause doubt and confusion. The Bible stands on its own testimony, ?inspired of God2 Tim.3:16. There is a great need for Christians to be able to accurately communicate the truth of God?s Word!
This is especially important when it comes to the Birth of Jesus!

One source of information is
http://www.bethlehem5bc.com/

It contains: The Prelude (Old Testament including Jesus?s Genealogy-how God used the Jewish people to be a witness to the world), The Town (Bethlehem) of Jesus Birth, The
Postlude and The Future (Jesus Ministry and the second coming of Jesus as told in Revelation). During this Christmas season the Mission Focus will present some facts found in these sections. We are starting with the Prelude. This gives a background about important historical and spiritual points from the Old Testament (and secular history) that prepared the way for Christ?s Birth. Included was prophecies such as Micah 5:2, "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." MAGI: ?From about 600 B.C. to 600 A.D., the MAGI were from the PRIESTLY TRIBE OF THE KINGDOM OF PARTHIA (IRAN). Daniel chapter 2:48 tells why King Nebuchadnezzar II
appointed Daniel to be the leader of the Magi after interpreting his dream! Chapter 2 of Daniel is important to read as it tells us so
much about the power of God! BIRTH OF CHRIST: ?We know now that that King Herod probably died in 4 B.C. The Magi came after the Birth of Jesus, but before the death of King Herod. They spoke with Herod. So Jesus was probably born in 5 or perhaps 4 B.C.

CHRISTMAS HAD ITS ORIGINS IN THE EARLY CHURCH, NOT PAGANISM
Credible evidence to support the traditional dating of Christmas on the 25th December. Not only so, he argues that "the Roman pagan festival was instituted after the Christians had already been celebrating the birth of Christ on that day for many decades. Their pagan festival was an attempt to create an alternative tradition, which already was associated with the birth of Christ"
http://www.christianaction.org.za/index.php/articles/biblical-worldview/212-was-jesus-born-on-25-december

Why did the early church institute December 25 as Christmas, a day for giving gifts? Because it was the day when Maji presented Jesus with their gifts. See the next link:

THE STAR OF BETHLEHEM & the DAY OF THE CROSS:
A look at the heavens during the time of Christ & an affirmation of the birth of Jesus. The basis for studying astronomy and not practicing astrology: The stars tell us about the God of heavens like a thermometer: They signify things are hot & cold but don't make things
hot or cold. Stars indicate what is going on but don't make things happen. ?This explanation of the Star is compelling…NASA's Chief Engineer for the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station

Movements of Desire

I’m pulled from death and taught to walk
You hold me safe. My lips now talk.
You stole my chains and set me free.
You robbed the dark. Now I can see.
“Captive by my abiding grace,
Your former paths have been replaced.”

I taste a treat and first say, “Ahh!”
Too much I eat and then say, “Blah!”
I back away and have no more.
Is this the way I treat my Lord?
“Though this is how you’ve dealt with sin;
Come here, my child, again and again.”

A woman holds my eye, my ear,
My heart, my hand, and so my years.
But if all love is but for her,
I find my faith is weak, unsure.
“Though for another your heart yearns
For Me My child, come let it burn.”

Your flow of life has made me right.
All else is still. You share your life.
All else is dark. I see your light.
Lord, now I know that you are right.
For I’m in Christ, and Christ in I.
In this one way, I’m satisfied.

In deepest need comes compulsion.
From sin I’m freed with deep revulsion.
More than my other deep attraction,
In God alone is satisfaction.
In all movements of my desire.
Lord, draw me nearer, draw me higher.

Recovery

Today I participated in a NAMI Conference for Washtenaw County, and this seems appropriate to pass the publishing gate. Not all who suffer get this bad, but sometimes this is the only way to get out of the fog. A quick shout out to all those that I got to talk to there. I especially enjoyed hearing the fellow play a bit of Bach.

Lesson for the day from all those I got to hear:
Those of us with mental mazes are not social problems,
we are social pioneers and can be mentally amazing. But I digress.
<

Dedicated to those who suffer from chronic mental illness.

As winter comes
and days are shorter, colder, and less friendly,
I huddle up, hugging blankets,
hoping to love, and be loved in return.

And when nothing happens but the dull passage of time,
I see a choice:
to hide forever digging deeper into darkness
or to rage against it all.
I have already hidden,
. . . but if I were to rage, would I rage against the walls?
or would I rage until I slid beneath in cowers?
or would I rage against the Living God?
or would I rage against some foe so tangible to me,
invisible to you?

The walls would yield till I fell cold.
My energy must not be wasted, for there is too little.
My rage must not be spent in ways as foolish as despair.
The Living God has long withstood my rage,
and all my hammering is empty,
looking so much like rebellion
that I have come to despise myself,
yet I shall see the face of God.
So if I raged against the foe who hides
and preys on weaker souls,
would "they" call me crazy?
Would I give up too soon, too short of victory?
Would I be crowned a hero for the day?

They have already called me crazy.
Awakening to victory against the enemy is worth
a thousand yesterdays of failure.
I have no choice but to rage in a hidden, friend-filled place
my love exploding gladly in the face of fear.
till God rewards with rich, undying, open grace.

Love Poem

Genesis 2:20-25 (LEB based)
The man gave names to every domesticated animal and to the birds of the sky and to all the animals of the land. But for the man there was not found a helper as his opposite. Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man. While he slept, He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in the place of it. Then Yahweh God fashioned the rib which he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. And the man said,
“This one is now bone from my bones
and flesh from my flesh;
this one shall be called ‘Woman,’
for this one was taken from man.”
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cling to his wife, and they shall be as one flesh. The man and his wife, both of them, were naked, and they were not ashamed.

For most men, finding a wife is not an easy process. Now, perhaps some immoral men find a second wife easier to get, but it was not this way from the beginning. In the beginning, it was God’s design that there should be one man for one woman. How much difficulty there has been in the world because marriages fail and are replaced so quickly! It ought not be so.

Notice, God did not merely recognize what the man surely felt: something is out of order for there to be a lack of a mate for the man. Immediately, the man began naming the creatures on the land and in the sky. The first engineer is God, and the first scientist was the man He made, ie. Adam.

It seems the man was so busy naming the creatures and doing His God appointed task, that he got tired. There are many animals made by God, so this would have taken some time. Yet there was no match. Have you ever looked and looked and found nothing, and then you suddenly found what you sought after getting some rest?

This is what happened to Adam, he was so exhausted that he slept and slept deeply. It was as though his scientific endeavors served as an anesthesthetic. In that deep sleep, God took from his side a rib, or a part.

What is so significant about taking something from his side? Had God taken a toe, the man might have ruled over her. Had He taken the man’s hair, she might have ruled over him. Hand God taken from the man’s hand, he might have made her work all the time. No, God took from the man’s side, so that she might be beside him, near his heart, a companion next to him, a counterpart. They were to correspond to one another. They were a match designed in heaven, made on earth. The mind of God knew how to match the heart of a man and a woman, and so the man sang.

Clearly, the woman was beautiful and the man was refreshed as soon as he woke from his sleep, because he immediately sang a love song. Interestingly, this is the second love song. The first was when God made mankind. This reveals a mystery: As God loves mankind, so a man must love his wife. It will not always be easy, but it will be possible. God will heal the heart if we rest in him.

God heals the heart not by all these beasts of the field, though those are certainly nice. A bird cannot compare to a person, no matter now lovely the bird’s song. Any man worth any salt will know that a human love song truly sung between a couple has more heart in it than the song of any other creature. The dutiful dog is not delight compared to a wonderful wife.

Some speak of this as a time of innocence. And surely there was innocence: no shame. But the last sentence speaks of more when it speaks of two in the nude without shame. It speaks of love. While it does not say that they knew each other (there seems to be little mention of the word “know” apart from the tree and until after the curse), still the Lord brought the woman to the man and he sang.

The only time there is absolutely no shame when a couple comes together like that is when there is perfect love. Perfect love casts out fear and shame and anger and anxiety and sadness. There is a satisfaction in love, and the song the man sang indicated he was satisfied at last.

Are you looking for love? Where are you looking? Are you doing God’s will? Are you doing the work God has assigned for you to do like the man naming the animals? Are you following Jesus like the woman followed the Lord in the garden to her man? If you are lonely, look first to Jesus and do the work He has assigned you. I cannot guarantee you will immediately find a husband if you are a woman or a wife if you are a man, but you will find purpose.

Finally, do not look too hard for someone just like you. The man did not look for a man, but for one that was his opposite, his counterpart. The woman was not led by God to another woman, this would not make sense in God’s kingdom. They were not led to match up with boys and girls. Here we see a family beginning in seed-like form: a husband and wife meeting, called by God, made in His image, walking in love. It was paradise, heaven on earth. Multiplication requires diversity.

To close with, I would like to include a poem I sent to my wife before we were engaged. Her response made me realize that this woman who had been corresponding with me for years just might be the one who would correspond with me face to face one day.

Courage in a Raging Internal Environment
Send first to S.E.F. on November 6, 2000

When mourning dawns upon the whirling earth
and tears begin to stream the face of mirth
a cry erupts and breaks the dullness of
the eye: a plea for Son, “O Fiery Love,
Come warm the heart that’s borken by a soul
untouched by tender hands.” Alone, the sol-
dier marches on, his only food the fruiful day
that is to shine: a dream still far away
to eyes that cannot gaze upon the Light
beyond the freezing smog of sluggish fright.
Then pain, though thick around my mind, is pierced
by promise of a change in whether fierce
or fair the day shall be when met by
courage that internall foes cannot deny.

Prayers for Henry Beaudine

Written June 15, 2013
“I was not there today;
But, God, give grace that’s gain.
His valve should have no hole
so that his heart is full.
That wounds would heal and mend;
His blood should flow again.
That pains would go. Amen.”

Post Script:
June 25, 2013
I received a report last night that my nephew is eating much better. He may eventually catch up with his weight. God is clearly at work. All praise to His name.

Angela’s Aspirations

“God, steal the nails of rust within my heart.”

I wonder why God saves and heals
… perhaps because He works our weal.
I wonder why faith flounders, fails
… perhaps my flesh is weak and ails.
But when my heart’s aflame with trust
Then God does what He said He must:
The Lord comes near, reveals …
Christ frees us from our jails,
and lifts us from prayer’s hush.
I still my hurt
and wounded heart
in Him.

Tear Not the Veil too Quickly

Why do you humuliate me like a slave girl,

who cannot run from her master?

I am a man of God, and should be honored as such,

And yet you drag me through the shame of the world.

Lord, wed me to yourself and let me see your face,

But do not let me be disgraced.

Tear not the veil too quickly when I turn to you,

Lest I blush in your splendid glory.

And yet, my heart pounds and my mind races rapturously

when you capture me

in your strong arm.

I want to be held,

only loose enough that I might wriggle free.

Take me not away too quickly,

draw me near to you and come quickly.

But let me hold my dignity …

Oh, I have nothing of my own, I’d trade it all to be with you again,

Do not leave me yet,

hold me fast, lest I must fast, and be torn deep within.
